LADY JANE'S VICTORIAN TEA
Saturday, April 26, 2008 12:00 p.m.
Step back one hundred years and relax at an opulent luncheon as costumed waitresses serve tea and a delicious lunch are served.
Elegantly costumed hostesses will preside over tea at every table. Delight in refined Victorian entertainment as your host, Lady Jane,
leads the day's music and vignettes from 1900, featuring quilts from the era. The event is held at the International Chefs' Culinary Center
at Grande Market Square in Burnsville.
Advanced tickets are required. Tickets go on sale March 1.

SPRING FESTIVAL OPEN HOUSE
Saturday, May 3rd, and Sunday, May 4th, 10 - 4 pm
Celebrate Dakota County agriculture at Dakota City Heritage Village at our first annual Spring Festival
Open House. Learn about 1940s farming as volunteers plant fields on the south end of the fairgrounds with 1940s farming equipment. View baby animals and learn about
Dakota City's and the fairgrounds' upcoming events in 2008. Tour the Village buildings and find out how people in a rural 1900 village prepared for the upcoming
year.
Admission is FREE!
BLUEGRASS IN THE VILLAGE
Saturday, July 12th, and Sunday, July 13th, 10 - 4 pm
Enjoy the sounds of bluegrass as bands perform all day on
both days in the Village Bandstand. Bands from around the country will play at the 3rd annual Bluegrass in the Village
event. The village buildings will also be open, interpreting the rural 1900 era history of Dakota County.
Check back for band schedules!
Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children.
DAKOTA COUNTY FAIR
August 4 - 10th, 2008
FAIR HIGHLIGHTS
Celebrate the Daktoa County Fair 150th Anniversary! Enjoy one of the largest county fairs in the state.. . . food, animals, exhibits,
carnival and rides, art show, 4-H, grandstand shows, the Village, and the Dakota
Chautauqua. Dakota City Heritage Village is located on the west
edge of the Fairgrounds. During fair week, all buildings are staffed with
costumed hosts and demonstrators and will interpret rural 1900 life in Dakota County.
And don't forget to take in the 10th Annual Dakota Chautauqua! It will be performed daily in a tent in Dakota
City, behind the Drugstore. Don’t miss this funny, memorable show that tells tales
of county history.
See threshing demonstrations on selected days. Watch out as a traveling gang robs the bank on Sunday. Stop in the
Barbershop where you can get the news NOT printed in the daily edition of the Dakota City Free Press. Time for a treat? The Drug
Store is the place for ice cream and root beer floats. Visit the
museum in Ahlberg Heritage Center to view new exhibits and learn about Dakota County's agricultural and social past.
Hungry? Sit down and relax in the cool climate
of the museum café with an old-fashioned hotdog on a bun, a pickle
on a stick, or other items on the menu.
Buildings are open 11 a.m. to dark each day during the Fair.

DAKOTA CHAUTAUQUA
August 4 - 10th, 2008
5 & 7 PM Daily
The Dakota Chautauqua recreates the experience of a traveling tent show. A
cast of eight musicians and actors bring new tales and songs of Dakota County’s
past to life with humor, pathos and toe tapping exuberance. This year's Chautauqua
will detail life in 1858, our first year of statehood!

SOUTHERN CRUZERS SUMMER SPECTACULAR CAR SHOW
Saturday, August 23rd, 2008
Dakota City Heritage Village will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
in conjunction with the Southern Cruzers car and craft show. Visit
the 1900 village while inspecting the hundreds of cars and over 100 craft
booths that will be on display.
$5 Admission (includes admission to Dakota City Heritage Village)
A Pancake Breakfast will be available in Ahlberg Hall from 8:00 - 10:30 a.m. Tickets for the breakfast
are available at the door.
CIVIL WAR WEEKEND
Saturday, September 13th and Sunday, September 14th, 2008
Open from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. both days
A Civil War Church Service will be held on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in the church.
For just this one weekend, Dakota City Heritage Village will set the stage for conflict
between the Confederate and Union soldiers. In cooperation with the 5th Minnesota Regiment, the 2nd MN Light Artillery,
and other Minnesota re-enactment groups, visitors will observe how soldiers and civilians lived during the Civil War from both the North and South perspectives.
Periodic demonstrations will take place displaying some of the skills of the
Civil War soldiers. Expect skirmishes and clashes between the soldiers to happen throughout the weekend.
Admission: $6 per adult, $3 per child (three to twelve years of age).
PANCAKE BREAKFAST
Sunday, September 14th
Enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes made by a crew of master bakers from 8:00 a.m.
until noon, followed by an opportunity to visit Dakota City.
Tickets for the breakfast are available at the door.
Cost: $10.00 per adult, $5.00 per child (12 and under).
(This includes admission to the Civil War event on Sunday)
GRAND HISTORY DAYS
October 16, 17 & 18, 2008
The village is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. all three days.
Grand History Days provides an opportunity to bring children of all ages to experience
activities of the past in our Village through hands-on demonstrations. There are activities at fifteen
different stations that include shelling corn, making a cornhusk doll, learning embroidery, grinding coffee, and
playing old-fashioned games!
Adults can enjoy showing children how things were done in the past, or learn
themselves from costumed demonstrators.
Don't forget to stop in the Museum and enjoy our new exhibits. This event is particularly appropriate
for grade-school-age children.
Admission: $5.00 a person, (3 years and older). 3 and under - Free
VILLAGE HOLIDAYS
Saturdays, December 6th & 7th, 2008 Hours: 10 am to 4 pm
Sundays, December 13th & 14th, 2008 Hours: 10 to 4 pm
We invite you to experience December 1900 at Dakota City’s Village Holidays!
- Draft horses draw trolleys and give visitors a ride around the village
with a costumed guide.
- Our Victorian Santa tours the Village in a bobsled giving candy to the
children from 1 to 5 PM.
- The Drug Store will be open to sell candy.
- Christmas activities: Cooking and needlecrafts in the Harris
House, wood crafts in the Depot, ethnic Christmas tree in the Law Office.
- Choirs and individuals provide holiday music in the Church.
- Children can string popcorn and try their hand at other Victorian crafts
in the Library.
- Get your copy of the Dakota City Free Press and read the news of the
day.
Spend a leisurely pre-holiday outing with us. Hot food and other refreshments
are available.
Admission: $6.00 per person 13 years and up, $3.00 per child 3 to 12 years
of age. Children under 3 years of age are free.
